Arriving in Brazil
Brazil has numerous airports that offer direct flights to and from major international destinations. The primary hubs for entering the country are Rio de Janeiro's Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport, commonly known as Galeão (GIG), São Paulo International Airport (GRU), and Campinas-Viracopos International Airport (VCP). Both São Paulo and Campinas serve multiple daily flights o and from Rio de Janeiro.
Airports in Rio de Janeiro and Transportation to the Convention Centre and Hotels**
Galeão International Airport (GIG) is situated 38 kilometers from the Windsor Oceânico Convention Centre via the expressway. Transfer times can vary between 35 to 70 minutes, depending on the chosen route and the time of day.

Rio de Janeiro's Santos Dumont Airport (SDU) exclusively operates domestic flights to and from locations within 500 km of the city. It is conveniently located in downtown Rio. The transfer time to the convention center can vary significantly, taking anywhere from 35 to 70 minutes, largely depending on traffic conditions. On certain weekdays and times, your route may even follow the beautiful shoreline.
If you are arriving in Brazil via São Paulo International Airport (GRU), it may be more convenient to take a connecting flight to Santos Dumont Airport (SDU) rather than to Galeão Airport (GIG). The view during landings and takoffs from SDU is simply stunning.
However, if you enter through Guarulhos Airport (GRU) and choose to connect to Santos Dumont Airport (SDU), be mindful not to book a flight departing from Congonhas Airport (CGH) in downtown São Paulo. If you do, you will need to travel between GRU and CGH by bus, which can take a considerable amount of time due to traffic jams. Additionally, it is likely that you will arrive at JFK in New York and connect to your next flight from LaGuardia Airport.
Official taxis (yellow) and Uber are common and reliable transportation options in Rio de Janeiro. Special taxi companies are also available at the airport. Public transportation exists, but its efficiency may vary depending on the area of the city. Note that there are no metro or train lines connecting Galeão Airport to the rest of the city. However, subway and train lines can be easily accessed from Santos Dumont Airport with a short ride on the light rail (VLT).
Recently, a new multimodal transportation terminal was inaugurated in downtown Rio de Janeiro, known as the Kindness Terminal (“Terminal Gentileza”). An express bus line connects Rio de Janeiro International Airport to this terminal, operating every 20 minutes in both directions. The terminal is integrated with the light rail (VLT), which allows connections to Santos Dumont Airport and various subway stations along the route, passing by attractions such as Tomorrow's Museum, the Rio Aquarium, and the Rio Museum of Art. While this route is pleasant for sightseeing, it may be slower for transfers.
